I've carried around Anaya's story with me for way too long. It's the zany narrative I bring with me to every classroom that I've been a student and a teacher, the humor I include at every meal with friends and family, and the kindness I show to neighbors, strangers...everyone. You see, this is a love story. A love letter of sorts that's hammered out to every person who has ever loved and cared for children who aren't their own. The novel is a piece of fiction. The characters and events were made up, but this is loosely based on my life experiences. On the surface, it won't read like a typical love story and there will be times when it definitely won't seem like Anaya is winning. Especially because so many of her successes are weaved into her losses. But you'll experience it. You won't see it; again, you'll just experience it.
Unfortunately , the book isn't yet published. The manuscript is finished, and I'm currently in editing hell 😊. What I'm really waiting on, however, is a book cover designer to accept my offer (I don't blame these professionals because my offer is probably way below market; my fingers are crossed). I've had news stories published, and I've taught writing for years, but I'm totally new to writing and publishing a novel. Needless to say, I'm learning as I go. In the meantime, I've uploaded the first chapter so that you'll at least get to check out Anaya's world.
After reading it, please leave a comment. By the way, I've also been relying on friends and family to proofread, so please hop onto the community train of free-editors if that's your thing! Text or email me, but please know that all I have to give right now is a huge Jamaican... One Love!
